Paediatric Dermatology

Dr Wain specialises in the care of children's dermatological conditions. She has trained under Prof Gayle Fischer and also undertaken an honorary Paediatric dermatology fellowship at Westmead Children's Hospital. She is caring and understanding in her interactions with her patients and their families and is passionate about improving the quality of life of the children she treats.

Paediatric dermatology is a specialised area of dermatology involving the diagnosis and management of many skin conditions that affect children's skin. These conditions often cause the child lots of discomfort and can be a source of stress for the whole family. Some conditions can be very stubborn and there are lot of myths about treatments that can result in parents getting inappropriate treatment for their child's condition.

Many skin conditions that affect adults can also affect children. These include psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and warts. Others, are more rare and first picked up in children and then require life long monitoring and screening in order to prevent serious long term complications.

There are hundreds of paediatric dermatoses, here are some common ones that are seen in our clinic:

  • Birth marks

  • Eczema

  • Psoriasis

  • Warts

  • Genetic skin conditions

  • Hair loss

  • Viral skin rashes

  • Acne
