Women's Genital Dermatology

Dr Tevi Wain specialises in the care of women with genital dermatological conditions. She is compassionate and empathetic in her interactions with her patients and is passionate about improving the quality of life of the women she treats.

Women’s genital dermatology is a specialised area of dermatology involving the diagnosis and management of many skin conditions that affect vulval and perianal skin. These conditions often cause debilitating symptoms and general discomfort. Due to the stigma and embarrassment, many women delay seeking help and continue to live with the discomfort for many years. Others are often misdiagnosed and poorly treated and end up frustrated with their health practitioners.

Many skin conditions that affect the rest of the body can also involve the skin of the genitalia. These include psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and irritant dermatitis. Others are specific to the skin of the vulva such as lichen sclerosus, chronic vulvovaginal candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis and post-menopausal changes to the vulva.

If you experience any of the below symptoms or signs it is important to see your doctor for further assessment:

  • Itch

  • Pain

  • Burning

  • Discomfort with intercourse

  • Unusual vaginal discharge

  • Bleeding

  • Lumps

  • Ulcers

  • Changes to the colour or shape of the vulva
